babyInfant Development Program
Learning by Design places great emphasis on the developmental skills of each student. Our leadership and teachers believe that each child will learn at their own pace. It is our priority to work with each child according to their individual needs.

In our infant class we will focus on the following developmental milestones with your child:

Movement
Learning by Design will encourage movement such as raising the head while lying on the stomach to rolling over and sitting up by playing on the floor and using age-appropriate toys.

Visual
Our teachers will help your child to follow moving objects, use hand/eye coordination and eventually look at the correct picture when it is named.

Hearing and Speech
Through reading books and singing songs our teachers will aid your child in learning to babble, imitate sounds, respond to their name and in time respond to verbal requests and imitate words.

Social/Emotional
The Learning by Design teachers will play with your infant and encourage them to mimic movements. Your baby will stimulated through movement, play and laughter. We will use mirrors so that the babies we will learn to smile at themselves and at other babies.

Toddler and Preschool Curriculum
Learning by Design will provide an age-appropriate thematic-based curriculum for toddlers through 4 years old, which introduces academics with hands on projects. The children will learn through play, experimenting and their own creativity. The LBD curriculum is easily adapted to meet each child's individual needs, and will include the following activities:

  • Reading will play a very important role in this program. We will read and make books, which will focus on the theme for that given time. The children will be encouraged to act as characters of certain books by dressing up or with hand puppets
  • Colors will be a primary focus for each teacher at Learning by Design. We will encourage children to learn their colors by engaging in special projects, such as days when the children will be asked to wear the color we are learning at that time.
  • We will introduce math skills by counting, grouping, sorting and borrowing.
  • We will use flashcards for learning and recognizing their name and the names of their friends.
  • Children will be encouraged to attempt some handwriting skills as well as the correct way to hold a pencil, crayon, etc.
  • We will focus on several letters a month.
  • Your child will be asked to bring in items for show and tell that relate to our topic of study.
  • While attending Learning by Design your child will be introduced to an unlimited number of songs and games, which will coordinate with our themes and other programs.
